WELCOME to our Town! 

We are located in the southeast corner of Jefferson County in the beautiful state of Wisconsin.  Palmyra was established on
February 2, 1846.

The description from John W. Hunt, 1853 in the Wisconsin Gazetteer;  " The Town of Palmyra is situated on the Scupernong Creek, on the M&M R.R., 40 miles from Milwaukee.  It has  fine water power and is surrounded by a good farming district comprising prairies, openings and woodlands." Our Town was named Palmyra after a city in Syria because of the great amount of sand found locally in this area.

The Town of Palmyra:
    • Population 1,220 as of 2010
    • 34.79 square miles
    * 38 miles of roads to maintain
    • Contains three lakes, Upper Spring Lake, part of Lower Spring Lake and Blue Spring Lake
    * The town’s airport has one of the finest grass runways in the Midwest
    * The airport’s annual Father’s Day Breakfast Fly-In serves an average of 1,500-2,000 people
    • There are 65 aircraft based at the field
    • Our Town contains a sizable area of Kettle Moraine Recreational land

Towns are civil subdivisions of counties equivalent to townships in other states. Wisconsin towns are generally small units with populations under 2,500.  Wisconsin has 1,265 towns. Each town is governed by a board of supervisors elected every two years.  The Town Board carries out policies set at an annual town meeting held in April of each year. Towns are governed by Chapter 60 of the Wisconsin State Statutes..
